Sue Nagle Help From Above Fundraiser Event

During the Sue Nagle Help from Above Golf Ball Drop to benefit the BCCADSV. To confirm details call 278-SAFE or click on this year's flyer link in the events listing below. All of the monies raised from the event will help provide services to those that use the Naomi Davis Home, Altrusa Teen S.H.A.R.E and Laura’s Place.

In 2021, additional events besides just the Drop will take place, including an open house, basket raffles, kids' games, a bounce house, and live entertainment (scroll down to schedule below).

Background: When considering a unique fundraiser for the Branch County Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence in 2009, Sue Nagle’s name was mentioned as a possible person to honor. Later a small committee, composed of board members, community members and BCCADV staff came up with the idea for the drop.

Susan Branch Nagle was born and raised in Coldwater. She graduated from MSU with a degree in elementary education and taught elementary school in Lansing and in Highland Park near Detroit. In 1955, she married Robert Nagle, and together they had four children.

Sue came back to live in Coldwater just before the birth of her second child and was instrumental in starting the Coldwater Preschool Nursery in 1961. As her children grew, she became involved with Listening Ear in Coldwater, a helpline staffed by volunteers who listened to callers’ problems and helped them find ways to get help. This organization grew to become what we now know as Branch County Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence.

Sue continued to help with the shelter and became its volunteer coordinator, responsible for training and staffing volunteers. If a volunteer failed to show up for her shift, it was up to Sue to find a replacement or fill in hersel. Needless to say, she spent many nights at the shelter. Sue also hosted many thank-you parties for the volunteers.

"Everyone -- volunteers and shelter patrons themselves -- loved my mom. She was a compassionate listener and a friend to all who knew her," said Dave Nagle, Sue’s son and Golf Drop committee member. She would be humbled to have us using her name on a fundraiser, but would also be so proud of the dedication and hard work it takes to raise these kinds of funds and the first to hand it over to such a worthwhile organization."
